Matthew Theriot is ASCEND director and leads Teaching & Learning Innovation (TLI) within the Division of Academic Affairs. TLI is the university’s home for faculty and educational development, the promotion of high-impact pedagogies, the advancement of experiential learning opportunities for faculty and students, and the facilitation of effective online and e-learning instruction.
He also coordinates the campus’ leadership development programs and leads faculty engagement and diversity initiatives on behalf of the chancellor’s and provost’s offices.
Theriot earned his BSW and MSSW at the University of Texas at Austin and his Ph.D. in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley. He has led Teaching & Learning Innovation since 2015, and also served as Interim Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs from 2016–2018.
